ABOUT COOEE

About Us

Cooee Café is the only Indigenous café on the Mornington Peninsula.  Owned  by Sharon Brindley and managed by her daughter Shayla and her team of experienced hospitality staff, the café offers dine in, takeaway and catering six days a week.

The word “cooee” originates from the Dharug language of the original inhabitants of the Sydney area. It means “come here”, and has now become widely used in Australia as a call over distances.

Serving authentic Indigenous foods, flavours and dishes alongside regular Australian cuisine, we offer our customers an eclectic food experience.

Sharon Brindley

Sharon grew up on the Mornington Peninsual spending a lot of her childhood days over in Kalgooli with her Grandmother who would take her out bush and who taught her how to live off the land.  This is where and when Sharon developed her love of cooking and knowledge of Indigenous ingredients. Sharon sees food as an integral part of connecting family and people regardless of their background, culture or religion.

Sharon Brindley is a proud Yamatji/Noongar woman whose core purpose is to bring people together through food.

Sharon is passionate about bringing Indigenous ingredients to everyday Australians so they can taste them and incorporate them into everyday cooking which in turn educates people about our First Nations People cuisine.
